Volunteers Needed!

Like many youth sports, we cannot have a season without parent volunteers. We always appreciate the hard work that parents put into the season.

There are two broad categories of volunteer roles that need to be filled. Special Event Roles support our social events and organizational needs, while Meet Operations Roles enable us to hold our meets.

For most roles, you don't need to know anything about diving. During registration you will indicate an interest in one or more types of roles and you can sign up for specific Meet Operation Roles through the event calendar.

Special Event Roles

These are all the roles that perform tasks occurring away from the diving well. After registration, we will contact those who indicate an interest in these types of roles.

  • Spirit Wear Coordinator - Work with same role on swim team to distribute Spiritwear and team t-shirts to families
  • Friday Breakfast Coordinator - Work with same role on swim team to help shop for and serve breakfast on Friday mornings. (Can setup separate sign-up genius for volunteers)
  • Awards Coordinator - Coaches will decide awards, but a parent volunteer is needed to purchase the trophies and medals.
  • Label Printer - Using a provided team roster, print out labels for ribbons for each meet.
  • Events Coordinator - We have three social events that need planning: Pre-season kickoff, Lip sync and end of year banquet.
  • Banquet Food Purchaser - Coordinate the purchase of catered food for the banquet. (could be same as banquet coordinator).

In addition to these season-wide roles, we will ask for additional set up and clean up help for social events through our event calendar.

Meet Operations Roles

Sign up for these roles is on the calendar on the website for each meet.

  • Table Workers - We need two per meet. These people write down and/or calculate the scores provided by the judges.
  • Meet Secretary - One per home meet. An additional head table worker that ensures the meet is running smoothly, the scores are entered correctly into the reporting forms, and ribbons are prepared.
  • Announcer - One per home meet. Announce the diver and the dive they are performing, then read the judges awards.
  • Judges - We need 3 per away meet and 2 per home meet. The ones providing assessments of the quality of each dive which enters into the score calculations.
  • Referee - One per home meet. A specially trained judge that is in charge of the meet. Certification required to perform this role.
  • Pizza Coordinator - Purchase and serve pizza. For home meets, we treat the divers to pizza after their 4:00 pm warm up is complete. We also sell pizza and concessions during home meets.

NVSL provides excellent training clinics for Judges, Referees, and Table Workers. Please consider attending one of the training sessions. Training is not required to be a Table Worker or Judge, but it is encouraged for Judges. Training is required to be a Referee.

Even if you do not think you are ready to be a Judge or a Referee, these informative training clinicsare a great way to gain a better understanding of the sport of diving and what is going on at a meet.
