Wally Martin Memorial Meet

Hi Dive Parents,

For the past few seasons, we have sent a few participants to a unique meet that the league conducts annually. I'm hoping we can find more participants this year. This meet has two portions:

  • 3 Meter (high dive) individual event
  • 1 meter synchro team event, where two divers perform the same dive simultaneously and are judged on how well they execute the dive AND how well their movements are coordinated.

Last season, we had two opportunities for our divers to try their hand at the 3 Meter board: At Donaldson Run for a B meet, and at OakMarr in Oakton when we practiced for All Stars. I know that many of our divers had a blast on 3 Meter, and many of them may enjoy the opportunity again in a relaxed competitive environment.

This meet takes place Sunday, July 15th at the fabulous indoor OakMarr RecCenter in Oakton. The 3 Meter event starts at 8:00 AM, and the synchro event starts after 3 meter ends at around noon.

Practice:

I know what you're thinking..."my child has no 3 Meter experience and Dominion Hills only has one board, so we can't practice synchro".

We are entitled to a 1 hour practice slot at OakMarr either Friday (the 13th) or Saturday (the 14th) evenings. That should be enough time to practice their list of dives off 3 Meter or work on synchro timing with a teammate/sibling. Once we know how many divers we are sending we will request a more specific practice time.

Rules:

The dive requirements for the 3 Meter event are identical to those for regular meets. However, Juniors (11-12) are allowed to perform Jumps and fall-ins on 3 meter.

Unlike the four age groups for regular meets, the synchro event is broken into just two age categories: 12 and under and 13 up. 12U Perform just 3 dives and 13+ perform 4 dives.

Please ask your diver if they are interested in trying either of these events - I know many of them had a lot of fun on 3 meter boards last year. The synchro meet is a great way for friends or siblings to work together on a common goal, and the meet is truly fun in a relaxed environment. If your diver has a friend at another NVSL pool, such as Overlee, Donaldson Run, Arlington Forest, etc. they can even team up together for this event.

Let me or Angela know if your child is interested in this by Tuesday the 10th. Reach out anytime if you have any other questions about this opportunity, and I hope DH send a good number of divers this year.

-Thomas
